Being An African Child

“SEYI………..SEYI”, “coming mum”, “You this boy, I’ve been shouting your name since.. Please pass me the remote”. ‘What the hell’, i think in my mind.

Parents are special, especially African parents, especially mums. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

Who is mum? Mum is the woman who gave birth to you. She can also be the woman that brought you up. She is the woman who shouts your name, the woman who can send you on errands at the most annoying times, the woman who can give out 30 commands in the space of 2 minutes, the woman who can bring up a fault you made 5 years ago when you upset her.

Mum is also the person you go to when in trouble, the person you go to when you need to be comforted, the person who you go to when you find yourself in a situation where you don’t know what to do, the only person that can cancel all plans for you, the only person who can go through thick and thin to see you happy, Mum is a fortress.

She might be annoying at times but always know that you inconvenienced her in the womb.
